Put the right work front and centre

Your team should not have to hunt through menus for what matters today. Arrange the workspace they open around live numbers and the actions they take most — previewed with your real data before anyone sees it.

Live in production. Page Composer is in Design OS; the page it arranges is My Workspace.

Most mornings start with a hunt

A training provider runs on a handful of numbers — who is overdue, who is blocked from an EISA, whose portfolio is incomplete — and a handful of actions. In most systems those live five clicks apart, behind menus built for every possible user rather than for your team. The work is all there. It just is not where anyone is looking.

  • Overdue assessments are found when a learner complains, not when they tip over.
  • Readiness for an EISA is a report somebody has to remember to run.
  • A missing ID document surfaces at certification, the worst possible moment.
  • New staff learn the menu before they learn the job.
  • Every manager keeps a private spreadsheet of “the numbers I actually watch”.

What you can put on the page

Live headline numbers

Active learners, enrolments this month, active programmes, pending and overdue assessments. Each block links straight to the list behind it.

Readiness you are judged on

EISA ready, EISA blocked, Statements of Results ready and incomplete portfolios — the questions an auditor asks, answered before they ask.

Exceptions, not averages

A Needs attention panel, overdue assessments split by age (1–5, 6–14, 15+ days), and data-quality blocks for missing ID documents and incomplete records.

Quick actions

Add learner, Take attendance, Capture assessment and Run a report — one click from the first screen instead of a trip through the menu.

Preview with real numbers

Blocks in the composer render through the same code as the live page, against your own data. You arrange what your team will actually see, not grey boxes.

Draft, publish, and permission-aware

Save a draft, publish when ready. Blocks a person is not allowed to see are hidden for them automatically, and the page says so.

Configure. Preview. Publish.

  1. 1

    Start from a preset

Executive, Operations, Compliance, Delivery or Getting started — or begin with an empty canvas.

  2. 2

    Arrange the blocks

Add from the palette, drag to reorder, widen or narrow on a 12-column grid. Every move has a keyboard button too.

  3. 3

    Check it with real data

The canvas shows your live numbers, so you can see whether “3” next to “1,284” reads the way you intended.

  4. 4

    Publish to the workspace

Save a draft while you work; publish and everyone in the workspace opens the new arrangement.

What this does not do yet

  • One published arrangement per workspace. Everyone sees the same layout, with blocks filtered by their own permissions — separate layouts per role are not built into the composer.
  • My Workspace is its own page. The original home dashboard is unchanged, so nobody loses a screen they rely on.
  • Blocks come from a fixed catalogue of the numbers skillSYMS already calculates. You cannot yet define a custom metric or query.

Questions providers ask

What is Page Composer?
Page Composer is the skillSYMS tool for arranging My Workspace — the page your team opens to see its numbers and act on them. You choose blocks such as active learners, overdue assessments, EISA readiness or quick actions, arrange them on a grid, preview them with your real data, and publish.
Who can change the arrangement?
People with permission to edit your workspace design, typically administrators and operations managers. Everyone else sees the published arrangement and cannot change it.
Will staff see numbers they should not?
No. Each block carries the permission needed to see it and is hidden for anyone without that permission. The page tells them how many blocks were hidden, so a missing block reads as a permission rather than a fault.
Can I try a layout without my team seeing it?
Yes. Changes are staged: save a draft, keep adjusting with live numbers in the preview, and publish only when you are happy. Nothing changes for your team until you press Publish.
Which blocks are available?
Headline numbers (active learners, enrolled this month, active programmes, pending and overdue assessments), rates (completion, attendance, PoE coverage), readiness (EISA ready, EISA blocked, Statements of Results ready, incomplete portfolios), data quality (missing ID documents, incomplete learner records), panels (needs attention, recent activity, overdue by age, getting started), quick actions and a free-text note.
Does it replace the skillSYMS home dashboard?
No. My Workspace is a separate page under Operate, and the existing dashboard is unchanged. Teams that prefer their arranged workspace can simply start there.
Does it work on a phone?
The workspace is laid out on a 12-column grid that reflows on smaller screens, so an arrangement built on a desktop stays readable in a mobile browser.
