🎓 For Private HEIs, Colleges & TVETs

The statutory load, on one student record

CHE accreditation and self-evaluation, DHET and HEMIS returns, NSFAS funding and evidence, ICASS cycles, and alumni tracer studies — reading the same student record rather than four systems that disagree.

What You'll Achieve

🏛️

Accreditation you can evidence

Institution profile, governance, policies and self-evaluation held as records, not as a folder of attachments.

📊

Returns from real data

HEMIS and DHET reporting generated from the student record instead of assembled in a spreadsheet.

🎯

Graduates you can still find

Alumni directory, employment tracking and automated tracer surveys, which is what the reporting actually needs.

Your Workflow with skillSYMS

1

Set up the institution

Institution profile, campuses, governance structures and accredited programmes.

2

Enrol and deliver

Students, programmes, attendance, ICASS cycles and mark capture.

3

Report outward

HEMIS, DHET returns, NSFAS evidence packs and CHE self-evaluation reports.

4

Track outcomes

Graduates into the alumni directory, tracer studies, and employment outcomes for the next review.

Features Built for Colleges & Higher Education

CHE programme engine

Programme design, accreditation scope, review cycles and readiness against CHE requirements.

Self-evaluation reports

Build the SER from institutional records rather than reconstructing it every review cycle.

DHET & HEMIS reporting

Institution profiles and statutory returns produced from live enrolment data.

NSFAS funding

Funding status, disbursement sync and audit-ready evidence packs.

ICASS

Assessment cycles, bulk mark capture, moderation and term marks tracked against attendance.

EDLES exam files

Candidate entries, year marks and exam marks in the DHET format, validated before submission.

Alumni & tracer studies

Directory, contact verification, employment tracking and automated survey rounds.

Multi-campus accreditation

Accreditation scope tracked per site, because that is how it is actually granted.

Governance & policy control

Controlled documents with approval and read-acknowledgement, for the policies a review will ask about.

Common Questions

We already have a student information system.
Many institutions do, and the SIS is rarely the problem — the reporting layer on top of it is. If your SIS holds registrations well but you still assemble HEMIS, NSFAS evidence and the SER by hand, that gap is what this closes. We can talk about running alongside it or replacing it, depending on what yours actually does.
Does this handle timetabling and residences?
Timetabling yes, residences no. There is a master timetable with conflict checking as you place a class, and an AutoScheduler that proposes a term for review before anything is committed. Residence management is not a module, and institutions running large residences keep a specialist system for that. We would rather say so than sell you a checkbox.
We deliver both higher education and occupational qualifications.
That is common, and both run in the same system on the same student record. The two reporting regimes stay distinct, because they are distinct — a student on a QCTO qualification generates QCTO exports, and one on an accredited HE programme generates HEMIS.
How long does implementation take?
It depends almost entirely on the state of your existing data rather than on the software. Onboarding runs as a staged setup that captures accreditation scope, campuses and programmes before any student records move, so the migration happens onto a structure that is already right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is skillSYMS accredited by CHE?
CHE accredits institutions and programmes, not software. What skillSYMS does is hold the records, evidence and reporting that a CHE accreditation or re-accreditation process requires you to produce.
Can we run tracer studies without a separate survey tool?
Yes. The alumni module handles the directory, contact verification and automated survey rounds, so tracer study responses come back against the graduate record they belong to.
What about students who are also library borrowers and debtors?
They are one person. The library, the finance office and the registrar read the same student record instead of keeping three lists that drift apart within a term.
