PPE Essentials
The last line of defence
PPE (personal protective equipment) is anything you wear to protect yourself from a hazard: hard hats, goggles, gloves, earplugs, respirators, safety boots and more.
PPE matters — but it is the last line of defence. Your employer should first try to remove the hazard, replace it with something safer, or separate people from it with guards, barriers or ventilation.
Why last? PPE only works if:
• it is the right type for the hazard
• it fits you
• it is in good condition
• you wear it correctly, every time the hazard is there
If any one of those fails, you are unprotected. 🦺
Pass the challenge and it arrives straight away as a PDF. Add it to your CV or LinkedIn, and anyone can check it's real.

Train your eyes to spot hazards before they hurt someone. Practise on short, real-life workplace scenarios and learn what to do the moment you see one.
Know what to do before, during and after an emergency at work: alarms, exits, assembly points, helping others, roll calls and calling for help with the right information.
Understand how fires start and spread, prevent them at work, and know exactly what to do if you discover one: raise the alarm, get out, and fight it only when it is safe.
Grain dust can explode and harm your lungs. Learn the dust explosion pentagon, why housekeeping matters, how to control ignition sources and how to protect your health in silos, mills and stores.
Know what counts as an incident, what to do in the first minutes, how to write a clear and factual report, and why reporting near misses protects everyone.
Send it to a colleague, a friend or your class group.

Toolbox talks, inductions, refreshers and revision that people finish, because each one fits in a tea break and runs on the phone they already carry.
Need a topic we don't have? Request it. The topics people ask for most are the ones we write next.
Your people get a WhatsApp message or an email link and learn on their own phones. No logins to manage.
Print an A4 poster for the canteen, staffroom or site office. A scan opens the MicroQuest.
Every completion has a numbered certificate you can check online, which is useful for toolbox talks and inductions.
skillSYMS clients publish their own MicroQuests (policies, site rules, product knowledge) for their own people.
