Grain Dust Safety
Two dangers in one cloud
Grain looks harmless. But when it is handled — tipped, conveyed, elevated, milled or blown — it gives off fine dust. That dust brings two very different dangers:
💥 Explosion and fire. Fine organic dust hanging in the air can burn so fast that it explodes. Grain dust explosions in silos, elevators and mills around the world have killed workers and destroyed whole plants.
Health. Breathing grain dust day after day can irritate and damage your airways and lungs.
Both dangers are controlled by the same habits: keep dust inside the equipment, clean up what escapes, and keep ignition sources away.
Pass the challenge and it arrives straight away as a PDF. Add it to your CV or LinkedIn, and anyone can check it's real.

Train your eyes to spot hazards before they hurt someone. Practise on short, real-life workplace scenarios and learn what to do the moment you see one.
Choose, check, wear and care for personal protective equipment the right way — and understand why PPE is your last line of defence, not your first.
Most slips, trips and falls can be prevented. Learn what causes them, how to keep floors, stairs and ladders safe, and what to do when someone falls.
Know what to do before, during and after an emergency at work: alarms, exits, assembly points, helping others, roll calls and calling for help with the right information.
Understand how fires start and spread, prevent them at work, and know exactly what to do if you discover one: raise the alarm, get out, and fight it only when it is safe.
Send it to a colleague, a friend or your class group.
For employers, schools and training providers
Toolbox talks, inductions, refreshers and revision that people finish, because each one fits in a tea break and runs on the phone they already carry.
Need a topic we don't have? Request it. The topics people ask for most are the ones we write next.
Your people get a WhatsApp message or an email link and learn on their own phones. No logins to manage.
Print an A4 poster for the canteen, staffroom or site office. A scan opens the MicroQuest.
Every completion has a numbered certificate you can check online, which is useful for toolbox talks and inductions.
skillSYMS clients publish their own MicroQuests (policies, site rules, product knowledge) for their own people.
