Read a River Hydrograph
Learn what a hydrograph shows, how to read discharge, flood peak, time lag and the receding limb, and what makes the shape steep or gentle.
Learn the four mapwork calculations, the formula for each, and how to check an answer is sensible before you write it down.
By the end, you can
choose and apply the correct method for distance, area, gradient and magnetic declination questions in mapwork.

Map Calculations: Distance, Area, Gradient and Magnetic Declination
The marks are in the method
Mapwork calculations are the most reliably scorable part of Geography Paper 2, because there is a formula for each one and the formula does not change. 📐
They are also where learners lose marks for the smallest reasons: the wrong units, a forgotten conversion, or an answer written with no working. Method is credited separately, so show all calculations is not a suggestion.
South African 1:50 000 topographic maps are the standard here. On those, 1 cm on the map = 0,5 km on the ground. Commit that to memory — almost everything else follows from it.
Pass the challenge and it arrives straight away as a PDF. Add it to your CV or LinkedIn, and anyone can check it's real.

Learn what a hydrograph shows, how to read discharge, flood peak, time lag and the receding limb, and what makes the shape steep or gentle.
Learn to read river profiles, explain how a meander erodes and deposits, and recognise the features left behind by river capture.
Learn what common Geography instruction verbs are actually asking you to do, so your answer matches the task instead of losing marks you already knew.
Build a mapwork checklist covering scale, bearings, coordinates, contours and orthophotos, plus the GIS ideas that go with them.
Understand how berg winds warm and dry the coast, why cities build their own heat island, and how a valley inversion traps the air we breathe.

Toolbox talks, inductions, refreshers and revision that people finish, because each one fits in a tea break and runs on the phone they already carry.
Need a topic we don't have? Request it. The topics people ask for most are the ones we write next.
Your people get a WhatsApp message or an email link and learn on their own phones. No logins to manage.
Print an A4 poster for the canteen, staffroom or site office. A scan opens the MicroQuest.
Every completion has a numbered certificate you can check online, which is useful for toolbox talks and inductions.
skillSYMS clients publish their own MicroQuests (policies, site rules, product knowledge) for their own people.
