Mid-Latitude and Tropical Cyclones

QUEST GEO-CYCLONES

Two systems, one confusing word

Both are called cyclones. Both are low pressure systems. Both bring rain and wind. That is where the similarity ends, and mixing them up is one of the easiest ways to lose marks in this section. 🌀

South Africa meets both. Mid-latitude cyclones sweep past the south in the winter months and bring the Cape its rain. Tropical cyclones form far to the north-east over the warm Mozambique Channel and occasionally reach Mozambique, Zimbabwe and the Limpopo lowveld.
