QUEST BUDGETING-15

Why budget?

A budget is not about being stingy. It is simply a plan for your money before the month starts, so the month does not decide for you. Without a plan, money disappears on small things and there is nothing left when the taxi fare goes up.

Step 1: Money in, money out

💰 Income is the money that actually reaches you each month — your take-home pay after deductions, plus any grants, side hustle money or support from family.

💸 Expenses are everything that goes out: rent, transport, food, airtime and data, school costs, electricity, debt repayments, church or family contributions.

The basic rule:
Income − Expenses = what is left

If that number is negative, you are borrowing to live — even if you have not noticed yet.

Tip: use your real take-home amount, not the salary you were offered.
