skillSYMS for Windows
Install skillSYMS Desktop on Windows 10 and Windows 11, x64 and ARM64: EXE installer, MSI for silent enterprise deployment, and a machine-wide policy file.
System requirements
- Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11
- x64 or ARM64 processor — Windows 11 on ARM also runs the x64 build through emulation
- Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (built into Windows 11; the installer fetches it on Windows 10 if missing)
- 300 MB of free disk space
Installing
File names below show version 1.0.0; use the name of the file you downloaded.
EXE installer (per user)
Double-click the setup file. No administrator rights are needed. The installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" the first time: choose More info → Run anyway. Check the file first at skillsyms.com/download/verify.
Silent EXE install
skillSYMS_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe /SMSI — silent, per machine (Intune, SCCM/ConfigMgr, Group Policy software installation)
msiexec /i "skillSYMS_1.0.0_x64_en-US.msi" /qn /norestartMSI — uninstall
msiexec /x "skillSYMS_1.0.0_x64_en-US.msi" /qnGroup Policy and Intune (ADMX)
From version 1.2, the skillsyms.admx / skillsyms.adml template (download both: /desktop/policy/skillsyms.admx and /desktop/policy/en-US/skillsyms.adml) sets the organisation code, update channel, automatic updates, start at sign-in and kiosk mode under Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → skillSYMS → Desktop. Values in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\skillSYMS\Desktop override policy.json.
Pre-configure every computer
Place a policy file at C:\ProgramData\skillSYMS\policy.json. Every user who opens skillSYMS on that
computer is taken straight to your organisation, and the device registers as institution-managed.

kiosk_path(default/learner), no tray or window controls, and the web session is wiped after the idle minutes (default 5).
Step-by-step: deploying skillSYMS Desktop. Offline working (registers, logbook entries and evidence) is available from version 1.1 once your organisation switches it on — see offline working. Exam lockdown and USB export controls are not part of skillSYMS Desktop.
